From legendary Hollywood director Howard Hawks, Man’s Favorite Sport? features Rock Hudson and Paula Prentiss in a hilarious fish-out-of-water tale. The Film Daily applauded as simply “delightful.” Roger Willoughby (Hudson) is happily employed as one of the world’s great angling experts. Unfortunately, even his own boss doesn’t know that Roger has never been fishing in his life. So when press agent Abigail Page (Prentiss) arranges for Roger to participate in her resort’s upcoming fishing tournament, he’s thrown into a panic. At the resort, he and Abby commence a crash course to turn him into a genuine outdoorsman – only to have their plan riotously upset by a surprise visit from Roger’s fiancee. With a sparkling score by composer Henry Mancini, Man’s Favorite Sport? is a comedy classic you’ll fall for hook, line, and sinker!

This film is not in the same league as "Pillow" Talk or the super funny and great "Lover Come Back", but it is fun enough. Others have said that this was supposed to be a remake of Bringing Up Baby, but sorry I just don't see it. The transfer is pretty good with bright colors and the aspect ratio is apparently correct according to the IMDB Funny it plays differently on my Apple TV compared to my iMac. It seems odd that they used Technicolor (an expensive process) but didn't film in Cinemascope. At times the bits are over the top and silly (the bear riding the motor bike) but in other scenes cleverly funny. Somehow scenes from this movie stuck with me for years and it was fun to see them again.

Howard Hawks film that is very close to one of his eairler films; "Bringing Up Baby". Hudson plays the fish out of water and Prentiss plays the woman who slams into his life in order for him to fall for her. Not as good as "Bringing up Baby", but still worth the rent.

I don't watch very many comedies. I prefer action/drama movies. But, I make an exception for Man's Favorite Sport? I remember watching it as a child with my parents at the local drive in. I thought if was wonderful as I sat in the back seat. As I matured into an adult, I remembered this movie and how much I enjoyed it. I looked for the movie for years and finally found it on VHS. I watched it 5-6 times a week because the setting took me back to a happier and slower time in my life. No matter how often that I watch this movie, I am able to immerse myself into the film. The actors played their parts well. The film was funny and very believable. Well, I loved it so much,I wore out my VHS version. Then I was able to find it on DVD. I bought two copies so I would have a spare "just in case copy". Now I'm thinking about purchasing a copy for my I-Pad so I can take it with me. I can watch this movie over and over and it will never grow old.
