I wish I could give ZERO stars.

Saw it in theaters and LOVED it. Most of these negative reviews are by insecure incels who can’t stand that a movie is not made directly for them and have no interest in actually watching this film. They’ve suddenly graduated with a PHD in African studies and slave trade and care about historical accuracy of a film they only skimmed through a trailer of, despite loving the gladiator and braveheart for over 2 decades. Threatened that for one movie Hollywood isn’t holding up a mirror to them and fulfilling their idiotic fantasies but instead choosing to empower an underserved minority group. Ignore them and watch this movie on its own merit as it is a wonderful blend of action and drama. I enjoyed it on the big screen and it’s a must have in my movie collection.

They tried to do a girl power movie, but skipped the part where the Queen sold all the men into slavery so the women HAD to fight. The French felt bad shooting women so they fought them bare handed. The French killed hundreds and lost about 4 soldiers.

She was a slave trader, look up your history before trying to make a movie wish I could give it no stars

Scallawag 2022-11-29
They've moved from making madea movies and stupid "cat man" movies to this hot garbage. What's next? Trying to make black people seem strong and defiant is just dumb. Cast GOOD ACTORS because they are GOOD ACTORS instead of racially discriminating and limiting yourself to a very small and shallow pool of actors of only one race and you might not fall-flat like this film did.

There was an all-female military unit called the Dahomey Amazons. The Kingdom of Dahomey was an important regional power that had an organized domestic economy built on conquest and slave labor,[3]significant international trade and diplomatic relations with Europeans, a centralized administration, taxation systems, and an organized military. The growth of Dahomey coincided with the growth of the Atlantic slave trade, and it became known to Europeans as a major supplier of slaves.[2] As a highly militaristic kingdom constantly organised for warfare, it engaged in wars and raids against neighboring societies and sold captives into the Atlantic slave trade in exchange for European goods such as rifles, gunpowder, fabrics, cowrie shells, tobacco, pipes, and alcohol.[5][6] Other remaining captives became slaves in Dahomey, where they worked on royal plantations[7] or were subject to human sacrifice.

Saw this in the theatre and couldn’t wait to get my own copy. This movie kicks A**!

Onlydarrell 2022-11-28
This movie has heart and bite. A great story that follows a woman in charge of the king’s greatest army, who also tries to balance the pain of losing one’s self.

A beautiful movie all around! With incredible acting! Don’t listen to the haters! They’re just mad and rac1st. Viola Davis deserves an Oscar! 10 out of 10!

FortisOne 2022-11-28
This is a wonderful film. Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu are incredible here. The visuals are stunning, and the production design is jaw dropping. If you can get bast how blatantly wrong, and borderline insensitve the script is from what actually happened with the Dahomey, this is an amazing film. I hope people can atleast appreciate the acting and action here.

That’s why this…whatever-it-is…got a fresh badge.

Reminiscence of older Hollywood when they made big movies that weren’t superhero ones . This movie has a little bit of everything . When it was over all I could say I want to see it again !! Viola deserves to be nominated and perhaps the win , am torn between her and Michelle Yeoh . JUST WATCH IT !

Brisden84 2022-11-27
As a white person, to see some of these ignorant uneducated reviews, makes me sick and ashamed to be white… just vile disgusting humans with nothing better to do with their time than hate on others because they’re simply TRASH, with nothing of value to offer society 🤷‍♂️

Slave traders are cool heroes now?

Sparhawk74 2022-11-27
This movie attempts to rewrite history and make this tribe to look noble. This is movie spins lies and false information about a tribe that massacred and enslaved Africans.

Ignore the fake bad reviews from folks who somehow suddenly have a issue with how accurate the film is. It’s Hollywood. Certain groups of people prefer films where we are just slaves vs. ones where we are fighting back.

Historically inaccurate. There is a difference between taking liberties to make a movie better and completely changing the narrative- this is the latter.

Probably one of the worst movies to ever crawl across my TV screen - if not the worst.

Keep it coming

Bigdunn22 2022-11-25
This movie is laughable and so wrong on so many levels. The truth is these “strong” black women helped sell not so strong black people into slavery. The people celebrating this movie are only celebrating their ignorance.

They were the Africans responsible for the bulk of the slave trade if history is correct, uhm. They weren't victims, they victimized.........heavily. Movie is blah, but that's what happens when you try to rewrite history, just saying....

Kymmee 2022-11-24
The movie is very good. Don’t allow folks who doesn’t like that the movie doesn’t go deep enough into the history of Dahomey’s selling of slaves deter you from this great movie. It’s like being mad at the movie Gladiators for not doing the same but the movie is very good. It’s about the female warriors of Dahomey just like gladiators is about a fierce Roman general.

Zombielovr31 2022-11-24
I am not understanding the negative reviews. It’s a movie. It does not say that is it based on real life events. I loved this movie, the roles were played masterfully. The cast was right on the money. Perfect.

Pleasantly Delighted 2022-11-24
The actors, actresses and director sincerely thought through this movie and have a wonderful presentation as a final cut. Loved the storyline and the redemptive nature of it. Thanks for keeping the pride of Africans strong.

Get woke, go broke. Save your freaking money for something that isn’t woke.

Absolutely loved this movie from the acting to the story line to the art of it all. Wonderfully told and wonderful representation. The entire cast was purely awesome!

wilsent7 2022-11-24
This film completely ignored the role of this particular African tribe in trade & promotion of slavery. They captured and sold black slaves, and were not some kind of admirable folks in any shape or form as portrayed by this woke-garbage trash film trying to revise actual history. What an insult to the actual victims and disregard of their suffering by completely white-washing the violence committed against them by the Dahomey kingdom in 1800s.

sjrdragon 2022-11-24
This is a documentary, about as much as Black Panther is a documentary -it’s not. This is entertainment. There are some great performances. I purchased the movie because if its position in the history of filmaking casting black women heroically. I grew up watching westerns, cowboys and indians. The indians didn’t get to write the story. Conversely, The history of africans is often written by europeans The 1963 version of Cleopatra is not an historic documentary. But no one complains about the historic inaccuracies. For the w020 version of Mulan the colonist had no criticism. Mel Gibson”s Apocalypto didnt cause issue about historic inaccuracy. But Mulan was not a black woman and Apocalypto was not about africans. Buy this movie. the only thing colonists understand: it’s the power of the dollar (mammon). Why is the Apple rating unmatched to rotten tomatoes? Because racist live to torpedo black art. Every POC should be buying this film! Having said this: Will Smiths movies should be boycotted: he is a thug, still.

Stickyfingaz27 2022-11-24
The Agojie fought in slave raids along with the male fighters. There are accounts of Dahomey warriors conducting slave raids on villages where they cut the heads off of the elderly and rip the bottom jaw bones off others. During the raids, they'd burn the villages to the ground. Those who they let live, including the children, were taken captive and sold as slaves. The movie strategically downplays this part of Dahomey's history, so as to not complicate the story with the truth. The truth is that they conquered neighboring African states and took their citizens as slaves, selling many in the Atlantic slave trade in exchange for items like rifles, tobacco, and alcohol. So this movie tells the complete opposite of what really took place. Just another attempt a changing history by woke Hollywood.

Please ignore the racist reviews.

Too far fetched… tired of Hollywood trying to shove a culture down my throat… or any culture for that matter. It just isn’t right!

This movie, completely changes, history, and how it actually happened

shalemaa 2022-11-22
I find it interesting that all of a sudden the people of a whiter complexion talking about historical inaccuracies. When they taught the most historical inaccuracies and fight to hide the fact their hands where stained with their ancestors audacity. This was an amazing movie and I loved it. Next we should make a movie of what happened with the Native Americans and see how y’all react to that. Giving them blankets with diseases as a gift for them teaching y’all something.

If you want to watch a movie of so stunning and so brave black wimminz fighting for their right to sell slaves to da wyte man, then this is a must. One comment: the stunning brave black wimminz got besten by the French. Because the French and the English said no to slavery.

Dahomey emerged as a key players in the trafficking of West Africans between the 1680s and early 1700s, selling its captives to European trader. There history for you this movie is trash woke nonsense.

In my opinion this was a GREAT movie .. It doesn’t matter if you are black, brown or white woman it is a message that we as woman have much strength and durability. When we come together without evil or wick intent much can get accomplished .. When it came to the right to vote for women it took all races of women to band together to get the job done.. Hate will never prevail it will only keep us on bondage..
