Set in war-ravaged China during the late 1930s, "Huang Shi" is based on true events. It's the story of a young Englishman, George Hogg (Rhys Meyers), who led sixty orphaned boys on a journey across the Liu Pan Shan mountains to safety on the edge of the Mongolian desert.

Easily, one of the finest movies in the last decade. The story line, casting, cinematography, pacing, direction, and soundtrack is all great. Saw it 5 times in the theater, and now have two copies of the video. See it. Buy it.

Great performances, captivating depiction of a true story. It is a very satisfying experience. It was inspiring to some extent to see how much was overcome and the tragic ending of George's life interpreted by Jonathan. They gave of themselves to care for the needs of the most vulnerable during Japanese occupation of China with all of the crimes of war being evident. It is worth two hours of time to admire sacrifice and determination to survive. The sad tragedy at the end is sad for George, but that's what happens to courageous people who give up lay down their lives for the beenfit of others.
