What if superheroes were real? Following a colorful cast of real-life masked and caped crime-fighters, director Michael Barnett travels the country capturing ordinary people committing extraordinary acts of bravery and kindness. They are teachers, security guards and stay-at-home dads who don homemade comic-book costumes and fight for justice with names like Mr. Xtreme, Dark Guardian and Vigilante-Spider. An official selection of Slamdance and Hot Docs film festivals.

At first I thought: are these guys for real? How could somebody think a documentary about these losers be interesting? Then I could not stop watching and admiring the dedication of these people to do good for their neighborhood and the people living there. I had no clue. Respect. Thank you for shooting this. It educated me and made me feel good about the human race.

The movie's great, but its subjects are pretty pathetic. If anything it exposes them as highly delusional misfits who take comic books a little too seriously. I find it highly ironic that two of the Brooklyn "superheroes" come from Detroit. If they really wanted to make a difference, they'd fight crime closer to home, where it's needed. Patrolling the safest big city in the country doesn't take a whole lot of courage. Same goes for the guy who patrols Washington Square Park in Manhattan. That's basically NYU's campus. There are rich kids and police cars around at all hours! You'd have to try really hard to find any violent crime there. Yeah, there are drug dealers selling bad weed and crappy coke. Big deal. Half of them are undercover cops anyway. Point is, these people say they have their hearts in the right place, but really they're playing out a fantasy that most of us either grew out of at 12 or have the good sense to entertain in the privacy of our own homes. When it comes down to it, they don't want to get hurt or die anymore than the rest of us, nor are they willing to really put their lives on the line.

This doc was unexpectedly awesome. Reminded me of "Trekkies" but with more heart. As far as docs go, this is one of the better ones i've seen in a while. Master Legend is epic.

No Batman or Spider-Man here, just real people trying to make the world a better place in their own way. Sometimes pathetic, scary, controversial, intoxicated, but always with a mission to make the world a better place. Good film for you True Believers out there. Stan Lee also gives his 2 cents.
