It's 1972, a time of social upheaval, radical fervor, and the rise of new religions and communes across the country. The Source Family considers themselves an "Aquarian tribe," a secretive
but outlandish group of 140 beautiful young people, devotees of a controversial Hollywood restaurateur-turned-spiritual leader who has 14 wives, drives a Rolls Royce and fronts his own rock band, calling himself "Father Yod." The Family are local legends. By day, they operate the Source restaurant, which serves organic cuisine to John Lennon, Warren Beatty and many influential figures of the time. Behind closed doors in their Hollywood Hills mansion, the Family convene and meditate under the guidance of their “spiritual father,” Yod. He initiates his “sons and daughters” into a variety of extreme practices, which cause controversy with local authorities. The Family flees to Hawaii, eventually leading to their dramatic demise.

It was very interesting to see something that was special for many people at one point. I wouldn't have the courage to be a part of something like this, but i commend the people that were given the gift of faith.

THIS STORY IS CRAZY GOOD AND MADE EVEN BETTER BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF PIC, VIDS, AND AUDIO OF THAT TIME.

…it was actually pretty good. Typical story of a tribal leader and the people who follow.

This movie reconfigures the dull and expected idea of "cults" and cultism. Totally recommended.

An undeniably masterfully-crafted documentary, and a really extraordinary piece of filmmaking... an instant modern classic. Whatever your opinion on the subject matter, this is a sumptuous feast of a film in terms of capturing California's psychedelic 60's underground music and spirituality scene, and its crossover into all areas of Los Angeles culture, including movies, organic food, and fashion. What's more, if your open to the experience, The Source Family is a powerful tool for personal transformation, with never-before seen footage that shares some of the mystical secrets that so entranced these spiritual seekers. And the music... let's not forget the amazing music! Absolutely recommend watching this film.

You wouldn't believe it if it hadn't actually happened. The interviews and abundance of primary source material (videos/photos/sound recordings) combined for an interesting documentary that I heartily recommend! -Tom Gambill

Having been a member of The Source Family, and a featured member of this film, I hardly have an outsiders view. However, having had a most intimate insiders view, I can say that the effort and care that went into recounting this story is as accurate as possible telling the truth in all cases. I know the directors interviewed at least 50 former members, and only about a dozen made the cut, so this is pieced together with their talking points and the original footage and photos so craftily preserved by our dear Isis, who for years has held onto them in hopes that someone someday would be interested. I don't think anyone will be disappointed in this story. It was taken form a time and place that could never be repeated.
