Besides the subject matter of having an abortion not being funny, this film itself is just low brow and poorly executed. Some might like this, but the majority in my film class thought this was awful and the characters were unlikable.
Flaming pile of crap. Takes forever to go no where.
Slate is charming and funny in this; the comedy is awesome, the side characters really well cast, and the film goes surprisingly deep. A real delight.
One of the best movies ive seen. So glad this popped up on my itunes. worth every penny

Jenn Slate always impresses🤙🤙
I personally think this was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It was slow, in the movie the main character was an comedian and her jokes were awful, and overall it did not go anywhere. Highly DO NOT recommend!
This movie has a lot of crass humor and in the end seemed more like a commercial for planned parenthood. So, if you are not in favor of abortion, you will want to avoid this one.
I saw this film in the theater when it first came out. It’s about a woman who has a (what looks like) a one-night stand, that becomes an unintended pregnancy. The difference here (compared to other formulaic movies that deal with the same topic) is that the guy isn’t a jerk & yet she gets an abortion anyway & he remains supportive. A nuanced look at a familiar story.

I was a by apprehensive about renting this movie, eventually I just gave in. But it was the best decision I could have made!
Jenny Slate has lit a long burnt out fire in me about being about to be myself fully and 'unapologetically'.
i love this movie. jenny slate is adorable and if you like her sense of humor (aka marcel the shell) then this film is a must-see. i generally really hate sad, quirky, dark humors, and let me tell you, this is not one of them. 5 stars!
For an Indie film, Obvious Child has a good flowing storyline & main characters are entertaining. I give this movie a 4 star b/c the mother / love interest seemed pretentious...or highly unlikely. I couldn't decide which.
This is awesome: raw, touching, dark, and funny. Also love this group of talent. Oh Gaby Hoffman! <3
I found the lead character really endearing and cute and funny and I think every actor did a great job overall, but…what exactly was this story? Where’s the plot? I kept waiting for something to happen. We saw a girl get pregnant, make a decision without much confusion or stress, everyone around her is really supportive, etc etc. Again, what was the story?
Obvious Child deals with abortion cavalierly and irresponsibly. It is primarily propaganda aimed at convincing women that abortion is care-free, full of laughs, no big deal. There are literally jokes about "hunting" and "killing" fetuses. It left my stomach turning.
This film manages to be cute and complex at the same time. I love Jenny Slate and this was a great showcase for her talent and amazing personality. Worth the rent!
This movie was a total waste of timw and money. I am irritated that I gave money to this awful movie and it's clear abortion agenda. It wasnt even funny or relatable in anyway. Just really annoying characters. literally all that happens is she gets an abortion.... whole movie!
Boring as ...... Fug. Boring. Boring. Boring. Really no climax and nothing funny about it, Severely disappointed. Should have rented another movie. Cant believe this is even a movie to be considered to be purchased or rented. Heck, I would rather go watch basic TV and watch Judge Judy.
Very original. GREAT CAST!
I couldn't even finish this movie, first of all her stand up was over the top disgusting, and her character wasn't very believable. Her voice and character were grating.
Jenny Slate rocks it every single time. The movie is very raw and in my opinion, empowering. Life throws itself at the lead character in the most unfortunate ways and she still finds a way to laugh about it, jump over the hurdles, and take advantage of her independence
The title might lead you to believe the newly pregnant couple might keep their child, but this movie seems to be all about making light of abortion and trying to normalize it (all of the female characters had an abortion at some point in time). Even in her stand-up comedy routines the main character wasn't even slightly funny. I kept watching thinking at some point there might be something funny but that never happened. This was such a waste of $5.
Although it pass some time on my plane ride, I didn't like it, It was listed as a comedy but I guess I didn't get it. The lead actrees was very good. I give 2 tomatoes.
Some people like humor that is mostly people being awkward. Gilbert Gottfried does. Me? Not so much. Couldn’t watch more than 30 minutes of this. Painful.
Want to watch a good indie rom-com? Don't watch this then! I don't understand all the hype about this film. I didn't laugh one time. The stand up wasn't funny AT ALL and the fact that they tried to make a comedy about abortion?? First Off, ABORTIONS ARE NO LAUGHING MATTER. It's actually very serious. Weather you're pro-choice or pro-life, the subject of abortion should be taken seriously. I get how they're trying to make this subject somewhat "normal" but in a comedy? Come on. This very controversial subject shouldn't be handled like this. And I don't get why people are saying Jenny Slate had such a great performance. ? Um, how can a women performing bad stand up, gets pregnant, and thinks nah I don't want this child so I'm going to get an abortion, and then dates the man who got her pregnant be a good performance. Anyway, terrible. Not worth the time or money!

What people are rating these movies at 3, 4, or 5 stars? I feel there must be a large following in North Korea where they are happy to watch any moving picture?
1/3 of the way thru I stopped watching. Superficiality has risen to new heights. Wish I could get my 99¢ and hour back!
Love Jenny Slate, love the movie.

There can't be anything quite like a safe, legal and easily accessible abortion to bring a couple together, and on Valentine's Day to boot!
Wish I could put 4.5 as the score. She should really get some attention for this one. Very natural acting, almost as if it's not scripted.

Slate is witty, smart and should be nominated for an Oscar.
Not funny at all, and I could resist for only 30 minutes. Worst cast I've ever seen. Don't even think about spending the 99 cents.
not into watching pro-abortion propaganda. i’m pro-choice for certain scenarios, not this one...
I was all set to rent this movie for $0.99 based solely on the reviews.
I'm glad I watched the previews.
I was hoping there would be enough within them to warrant my dollar, but there wasn't.
It just seemed -- annoying.
So l spent $3 and rented a Japanese movie, instead.

Did not enjoy the movie. The humor was graphic and dry and would not recommend.
This is what my wife and I said about this movie. And listen, we know movies. We’ve seen many movies.
It was good. That’s the point I’M trying to get across.
This is a really odd movie. I started to think it was a love letter to narcissism, but … then started warming up to it’s charms.
Jenny Slate is likable, but her character is very difficult to warm up to. She plays a character who makes it very difficult to like her, which in turn makes it very difficult to like the character, but again, it’s honest, and reflects well with the stand up comedy she has in the film. I also find it annoying when she has super-supportive friends who seem to only exist to cheer her on, but you want to tell them to wake up and tell her to do the same.
I also didn’t find it quite as funny as I thought it would, so why the four stars? She has great chemistry with the male lead, and I enjoyed their story. Their courtship, if you can call it that, was fresh and different and made it an interesting film.
Not funny nor romantic. I may have laughed once. In fact, this film is simply a poor attempt at pro-abortion propaganda. I wish I had those 90 minutes back.

It's not a traditional rom-com in terms of plot, characters, subject matter or humor, but that's what makes the movie great. Watch it without any expectations. Don't read the description. I loved it and I can't wait to see more movies with Jenny Slate. She is hysterical!
It’s a good thing Jenny Slate is so funny and that the romantic chemistry is magnetic and believable. Otherwise, there's really not much in the way of a story. It’s all realistic, authentic to a point and neatly executed, but without the two leads it would have been plain boring.
Such a good film. Wonderful.
Great movie different from most romance comedies
Obvious Child would seem like a feminists dream. However, the girl(played by Jenny Slate) is uninteresting and flat. So this girl gets pregnant and plans an abortion. Unfortunately, the only date is February 14. She gets a abortion on Valentine's Day and dates the man of her unborn baby.
Serioiusly. Don't waste your time on this one. Sophomoric humor with a weak story line that skips over the critical issues.
It was sad, and disappointing. It is not commedy
I rarely write reviews on iTunes but I just finished watching this movie and felt compelled to share some thoughts. It was raw and honest and refreshing compared to most movies out nowadays. It faltered in some places but not so much so that any of it could be classified as bad or weak. It tackled a tough subject with grace and seemed so very affronting and gentle at the same time. However, the most impressive part hands down was Slate's performance. It's the defining factor that moves this movie from a 4 to a 5 for me. Her performance is one of the best I have seen. She displayed immense emotional range and awareness of not only her character's quirks and flaws but played off of a great supporting cast like she's been doing this for years. I highly recommend but don't watch expecting to only laugh, there are some deep and delicate emotions that this movie has and it is well worth the watch.
Boring and pretentious says it all about this dribble.
I had no idea what to expect from this movie and fell in love with its messy honesty. Touching, sad but ultimately empowering. Honestly the abortion part seems “groundbreaking” but it shouldn’t be. It’s just a subject put in the context of real life that isn’t the focus of the film. What shines is the humor and the awkwardness.
You've been warned! Despite a few warnings myself, I decided to rent given all of the five star ratings.
I mean, I love her character on Parks and Rec, but this movie isn't just bad it is unwatchable. What parallel universe do the editors live in where awful stand up and abortion is deemed funny.
I logged on solely on the hope of helping others to avoid this painful film.
